A Twist on The Classic LBD.

The 'little black dress' is an item that is essential to every women's wardrobe. This concept has been endorsed by Chanel since the brand's founder, Coco Chanel, published a picture of an LBD in American Vogue in 1926; Vogue called it 'Chanel's Ford' and said that the LBD would become "a sort of uniform for women of all taste' and if you need proof that Vogue is the bible of fashion, here it is. Vogue has been very aware that the Little Black Dress is a fundamental piece for almost 90 years and this idea has only grown since then and Chanel have continued to be increasingly involved in the evolution of this piece as the current creative director, Karl Lagerfield said quite rightly 'One is never overdressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.'

I've teamed up with 'DailyLook' to create a mood board on my take on the classic piece and it's a rather unique one, if I do say so myself. An LBD covers anything from the prototypical black cocktail dress to a black oversized maxi (HINT*) and what I love about this is how everyone can incorporate their own style into it. DailyLook have a section on their site dedicated to little black dresses which you can find here and the abundance of LBD's left me spoilt for choice when creating this StyleSet.

As I said before, this garment is essential to every woman's wardrobe, not only because of the fact that it's the perfect option when you're lost for what to wear but because of it's convenience and versatility. If you are having one of those days where you are hysterically screaming into the ill-suited pile of clothes on your bedroom floor, 'I HAVE NO CLOTHES' simply, take a deep breath, pull out your LBD and shoes of your choice (unless that will cause more hysteria, then just go bare-footed) and already you will look effortlessly well put-together and no one will ever need to know about the semi-breakdown you had prior to this! Not only does black have a slimming effect but it also co-ordinates with any other colour you may choose to wear making the 'black' part of this piece, in my opinion, the best part.

When creating my mood board, I felt especially inspired by the Olsen twins. I think everyone can agree that Mary-Kate and Ashley have always had impeccable style; from their days on 'It Takes Two' in their denim dungarees to the launch of their own couture fashion label, 'The Row', I have followed the twins every move in fashion and will continued to be inspired by their impeccable style in the future. Their influence on my own style and outlook on the fashion world is what inspired me to base this StyleSet on them along with the LBD I chose to use being named after them as the 'Olsen Maxi Dress'. My choice of dress is definitely not what comes to mind when you hear the phrase 'Little Black Dress' but it's a piece I fell in love with when I came across it on and I couldn't resist to use it for my mood board. As it says on the StyleSet, I think this really is a chic and easy piece that would look stylish for any occasion which is the soul purpose of a Little Black Dress and why I decided this piece would be the perfect choice for me!
